Five Things #161

Every Tuesday I share five things I've liked and think you might like too. Here are this week’s Five Things…

  1. A great profile of Teenage Engineering. Very cool company! — The $60 Gadget That’s Changing Electronic Music

  2. Surely you’d remember this! “Five per cent don’t know whether they’ve been attacked by a seagull or not.”Why I'm obsessed with people who respond ‘don’t know’ to really obvious YouGov questions

  3. Duolingo (the language learning app) has started rolling out a Stories feature to a number of languages. I'm really enjoying them, just what I needed to level up my German! — Duolingo Stories

  4. I love these — Blocky Abstract Oil Paintings

  5. What a wonderful idea — Hey From The Future

  2. As a happy owner of a pair of noise cancelling headphones and a regular wearer of earplugs I love having the option to shut out the rest of the world. However I appreciate being deaf to the world has its downsides! — Hit the mute button: why everyone is trying to silence the outside world

  3. Clever optical illusion — The arrow that can't point left

  4. What an amazing collection of photos — Abstract Aerial Art

Every Tuesday I share five things I've liked and think you might like too. Here are this week’s Five Things…

  1. I really like this idea — Effective funerals: buy biographies instead of expensive burials, and maybe cemeteries can become libraries

  2. I'm learning a tonne from this series of lectures by conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein — Leonard Bernstein - The Unanswered Question (Norton Lectures)

  3. You may have heard that Katy Perry was recently sued over her song Dark Horse. The whole thing is quite ridiculous as Adam Neely neatly explains in this video — Why the Katy Perry/Flame lawsuit makes no sense

  4. A fascinating episode of the After On podcast — Annaka Harris on Consciousness

  5. 🎧 I finally got around to watching series 1 of Killing Eve (which is as good as everyone says it is) and found myself constantly skipping back to look up various songs, many of which were by the band Unloved. Their debut album is particularly good — Guilty of Love by Unloved

  1. The case for more Emojis 🤓👉 — Emojis can make us as happy as talking face to face. What's not to ❤️?

Five Things #157

Every Tuesday I share five things I've liked and think you might like too. Here are this week’s Five Things…

  1. A good two-part podcast from Planet Money on recycling. Both are worth a listen, but a little disheartening! — 1) A Mob Boss, A Garbage Boat and Why We Recycle 2) So, Should We Recycle?

  2. And on a related note — What you think about landfill and recycling is probably totally wrong

  3. Some people have way too much time on their hands — People Are Photoshopping Mr. Bean Into Things, And It’s Absolutely Hilarious

  4. If you get a few spare minutes, rather than reaching for Facebook or Instagram why not check in on the bears hanging out in Katmai National Park in Alaska — Brooks Falls Brown Bears

  5. My holiday in Malta last week just happened to coincide with Malta Jazz Festival so I got to see a couple of excellent jazz bands play. This has inspired me to listen to (and attempt to play) more jazz. I'm particularly enjoying listening to Jersey by the Mark Guiliana Jazz Quartet.
