I’m a big fan of this Muse song. What a chorus!

A couple of things to watch out for:

  • The tom grooves in the intro, verse and bridge etc will be difficult to play at first. If you listen to the track you’ll hear Dominic Howard plays a stepped hi-hat (hi-hat pedal) throughout these grooves — pretty awkward coordination-wise! I’d suggest leaving it out until you are comfortable playing the grooves.

  • At the end of bar 69 you’ll see the words “D.S. al Coda”. This means return to the symbol at the beginning of bar 27 and play until the words “To Coda” at the end of bar 41. On the first time through the song you should ignore the “To Coda” instruction — that instruction only becomes active once you’ve followed the “D.S. al Coda” instruction. Once you reach the “To Coda” instruction on the second time through the pre-chorus you skip to the Coda symbol at the beginning of bar 70. If you have any doubts over the structure, listen to the song!
