I’ve wanted to transcribe this song from Hot Hot Heat’s excellent album Future Breeds for a long time. And finally, today was the day!
This will be obvious as soon as you look at the transcription. Hot Hot Heat love a time signature change! Implosionatic is full of them. If you listened to the track before I told you that, you might not have noticed. All the changes feel quite natural given the feel of the song.
There are a number of ways I could have transcribed the verse, but I opted to treat each phrase as one bar of 7/4 followed by two bars of 4/4. The 7/4 bar could also have been transcribed as a bar of 4/4 followed by a bar of 3/4 and you might actually find it easier to count the 7/4 bar that way, “1 2 3 4 1 2 3” etc. Make sure you count as you work your way through the song.
Everything else should be fairly straightforward. The song is fast, so start slow.
