I remember learning this song in college. One of my all time favourite Foo Fighters songs!

Listening to the track you’ll probably notice two things. It’s fast, and there’s some weird time signature stuff happening.

The main riff in the intro and middle 8 is in 7/4 — not something you’ll come across in popular rock music very often. I’ve written the rest of the song in 4/4, though Wikipedia tells me they are in 8/4, but that doesn’t matter too much.

You’ll probably find it helpful to think of the 7/4 grooves as a bar of 4/4 followed by a bar of 3/4 — Count 1 2 3 4, 1 2 3 etc. As always, take it slow before attempting to play to the track.

The rest of the song is fairly straightforward, but you’ll want to watch out for the groove in the middle 8. Taylor Hawkins alternates between playing the bell of the ride and the main part of the ride, which is pretty tricky when the groove is in 7/4! There are some oddly places crash cymbals that might catch you out too.
